I was in Lynford today, and they have Fiesta brochures available. Fiesta not on sale until April 04 ! According to Wheels, the Fiesta will be marketed as a premium small car. Base model about $20k, same as Focus CL or is Focus CL getting the chop and Focus Zetec the base Focus model ? Fiesta has lots of kit for the $$$.
No the base model will match or slightly top the Barina base model. The specced up Zetec model Fiesta with manual, 16" alloys and body kit will actually still come in under 20k, word from Ford itself. The CL will definitely NOT be going as it is a volume seller for the Focus and would be a VERY stupid decision on Ford's behalf. Trust me, the Fiesta would never ever undercut sales of one of Ford's own cars. It would be a decision similar to introducing a specced up Mondeo and dropping the XT Falcon. Neither car would benefit.
As owner of a Zetec I can also assure you that in NO WAY will the Zetec become the base model Focus. It barely sells itself. There's just too much kit in it to sell as a base model car for what is already $27k. Pure business, the base model will always be the volume seller, or at least the next model up (LX for the Focus and the Futura for the Falcon range). That leaves a potential gap of 7k between both ranges and who in their right mind would pay 20k for a base model hubcapped Fiesta when they could get an Astra with more everything for the same price. The Fiesta will almost mimic the Barina exactly when it surfaces, even in price, just as the Focus mimics the Astra. Both cars were designed to compete in Europe and it will be no different here.
Fiesta has lots of kit for the $$$ purely because it has to. It can't just equal the Barina and Mazda 2, it has to AT LEAST match and then some, being a brand new release. That further justifies the increase on price over a Barina, by perhaps a few hundred dollars each model.
Can't wait to see them around. They are good looking little cars...and finally Ford have a car that fits into that segment here in Aus. I wonder if you request to get the brochures off the Ford site yet. I might have to make a trip to the site.
Woohoo 900th Post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

H2 pwnz j00 foo.
Start out at just under 20 grand till it doesnt sell, then drop the price so low to get rid of them while existing owners lose thousands, then ditch the model for low sales.
A very skeptical Tim.

My girlfriend is keen to get a Fiesta she wanted to order one before they came out so she could be the first to have one but being skeptical I told her to hold out for awhile to see if they have a price or spec "adjustment" I reckon she'll at least score free air out of it if she goes with the base model but she is really keen on the Zetec but seeing as they are mechanically the same it will come down the price difference. She is using the Barina as a price estimate if it is much more she'll go with a Focus or a used Cougar.
Unlike the KA, the Fiesta is not the ugliest, quirkiest most unadvanced car in the world. If you thought AU was hit with the ugly tree then the Ka got hit with the whole damn forest.
Too quirky. The Fiesta has history, looks, quality, handling, equipment and refinement, plus it's also made in europe... very strong points in my mind and I reckon Tim couldn't be further from the truth, at least I'd like to think so anyway. That Ka was the ugliest thing I ever saw. It deserved to flop.
Yes but Tim as opposed to the Ka, the Fiesta has an auto, more than 2 doors and good looks. Not to mention great handling.
I don't see the Fiesta becoming the next Ka.
If they over price it in a market that is driven by price, then they will be like justa bout every other FWD they bring here.
To name a few: Ka, Mondeo, Probe, Cougar, Capri, need I go on.
You will not draw Holden customers by having a higher priced vehicle unproven vehicle. Price will tell. I hope it follows the path of the Focus though....
Tim
