I was taking the GF home last night at 10pm and we had just gotten through an intersection when we noticed an F150 ute (on gas) on the side of the road with flames coming from it. I hit the brakes and reversed the car up to a safe distance and put the hazards on. The GF got my mobile phone and called the fire service and I ran off to help the bloke trying to put the fire out. Me & 2 other blokes ended up putting out the fire with minimal damage and then introduced ourselves to one another. Turns out that both of the other guys were local firey's anyway. So I hung around til the fire truck got there and got a pat on the back for helping out. Pretty eventful night.
Sad thing was that other cars had driven past without stopping and people were standing on their front porch's watching us run a round like mad trying to get the fire out. Spineless bastards, more interested in watching something burn than helping anyone out.
Funny thing was, the F150 was up for sale and the licence plates read "FIRE 29"!
If you lived in the states, I reckon there's no way you'd stop to help out, for fear of it being a setup! It will be like that soon enough in Oz! Good to see someone still with some community spirit.
