Deff the EB, at least its a good first car where you can either get someone to look after for it for you, and it will last ages, or a good car to get your own hands dirty and tinker around with it, and not do too much damage!

Like EF said, get an EBII. For $5000 you could almost get a Fairmont if not a pretty good GLi. Good, reliable and tough cars they are. With half decent performance and economy you couldn't ask for much more in a first car
