My first car was a 67 Mustang Coupe, 2nd one was a 67 Cougar XR-7, 3rd one was a 66 Mustang Coupe. Why did I get rid of these cars for ? I know why, because I'm stupid, stupid, stupid.
There was a lightweight Ford Galaxie 2 door called a Thunderbolt introduced 1963/64, with a 427 side oiler big block which I,m pretty sure was faster than Boss 429,s,can,t remember the et,s.

Close, there was a lightweight Galaxie before the lightweight Fairlane Thunderbolts (compact Fairlane). No idea which one would be the fastest however - too many candidates!
After being intrigued by this thread, did a little research and there doesn't seem to be a common consensus amongst those who have a top 50 of muscle cars about which one was the quickest. Factory car built in the late 60's and early 70's with (often) the aerodynamics of a brick that can pull 12's... gets my respect, I don't care who's the quickest when they have those numbers!
There seems to be a jumble between the Cobra, Vette and Mopar. All of them run low 12's. All of them get my thumbs up.

I have an old article on that I can scan in. From memory they were 11-12second cars. Bare bones stripped to the guts and ready for drag racing. Released with limited (or was it no) factory warranty. Thats the shit.
Theres an awesome pic of one each of the headlights taken out and massive airconditioning style tubing each side leading to the carbies.
Oh yeah!
