Thumbs down Ford Forgot About This One

Flat tyre on the XR8:

Pull out spare by undoing the centre bolt and cover, jack, wheel brace thingy.

Get wheel off car.

Now the hard part; the centre caps on the wheel. How the hell do you get the one off the old wheel so you can put it into the boot with the centre bolt and cover? How do you get it onto the new wheel?

Ford forgot to give us a tool for the alloy wheels. Tssk tssk tssk.

AP will shop and get pliers to put in boot.

Ford will take notice and remember not everyone drives a Forte....... :dead:

i think it's easyest when the wheel is off. use the ford wheel brace or the handle of a screw driver to "pop" it out from the inside.

Tell me about it! I had the same problem yesterday. I was swapping the spare tyre with one that was starting to wear too much and came across the same problem with the centre caps. I used the pointy end of the tyre iron to take out the clip from the back. Even before I got that far I had problems getting the tyre off as the dealer must have used a rattle gun to tighten the bolts. I had to borrow a proper tyre iron from a neighbour.

It was quite a work-out putting the tyre on twice in the midday sun! I also now keep a pair of gloves in the car in case a I get a flat on the road. My hand were completely black by the end of the exercise.

So the centre cap fitted on your 5th wheel Pete?, it will be interesting to hear the response you get from ROH regarding that wheel.

Hehe EF_GuY devised his own tyre changing equipment, apart from the factory stuff, i have two wooden blocks for chocks, stockie nuts 5 of em and a rag all tucked in where the spare tyre is.

I've never had to take the centre cap off as my spare is a steelie, and i just chuck the flat tyre in without screwing it down.

there is an easy fix to that.... just take out the center bolt thingo from the spare wheel well.

I had to do that to mine - but for a slightly different reason - the bolt at the top had rusted to it, and the only way I was going to get the spare out was to break it.

Yeah, get stuck into 'em Pete. Be nice if they come to the party and supply you with a rim that's the same as your others to save on any hastles down the track.
Russell.

With the flat I took the dodgy rim in and had the tyre fitted to my spare brand new Azzurro. Told them to get me a new rim that matches the rest.
