Alrighty then, last night i got the renewal for the comprehensive insurance for the XR6. First the good news, is that the value of the car only dropped by like $140.
But the bad news, the premium for no reason has jumped $300. I have declared a $350 dollar exhaust modifications, which the Ford sales person assured me that my premium will not go up as a result.
I often wonder what makes insurance companies determine the insurance cost of a vehicle. I mean i highly doubt that as cars get older the insurance costs goes up, so that means if i were to insure a Holden Kingswood it would cost me $5000.
We specifically moved to Ford Insure as they were $400 cheaper than other companies as being Ford they gave a sort of incentive to own there specialised vehicle XR's, Tseries and GT's.
What really gets me is, here i am supporting the local industry by buying a local special and seems just for that i get slugged with a premium thats unjustified to boot the car is in Immaculate condition to the point where critically the agreed value of the car at $35k is not high enough considering the car is fully optioned.
At $1800 for insurance i'm getting charged the same as a grey import. And heres the government saying that we should support the local industry etc and not buy grey imports.

I'm still trying to work out why the dealer hit me stamp duty on my policy because I bought it with my new car. It already has stamp duty on it and they reckon it has to have the extra stamp duty charged because it's on the delivery invoice. What a load of crock. That's an extra $110 or so!

A work collegue mentioned to me yesterday that the insurance on his EL GT has gone up by $600 (not sure the premium total), he's with AAMI though. Insurance companies are theiving pr*cks IMO.
Stryder, id say in the last year they have recieved more claims for crashed AU XR6s than the previous year, thus requiring them to increase the policies on those cars?
My ED went down $300 from what I paid last year and im through Ford Insure.

I got a price on insuring a BA XR6 from FI and they where on a different planet price wise, something like $950 odd vs circa $700 for others and Allianz was circa $400!!
Shop around, they certainly don't do any favours for Ford owners in my view.
With all due respect, i'd say $35K is a bit above replacement value for an optioned 00 XR6hp :)
I'm going with ford insure when i get around to changing insurance, for me they were about $700 cheaper then AAMI.
i'm 19 on rating 5 atm, my EF is costing $1800 to insure, $1100 with ford insure, i wanna know what exactly they let u do in terms of mods.
they wouldn't tell me over the phone when i got the quote.

They allow exhaust, as long as its legal. 8in wide wheels as long as the offset is 0 (they originally only allowed 7in wide on EDs but have since changed). Lowered only up to 1.25in. Allow swaybars (she didnt even know what they were and couldnt find it in their 'list' they have, but added it to the policy)
They dont allow cams, turbo/supercharger etc
