Ford used to have a reputation for a really tough management culture.

Something reminded me recently that in the early-mid 80's I worked with a bloke who'd been at Ford, Broadmeadows I think, and was sent to, I think, Geelong to deal with some problems there. Can't remember the details, but the Geelong plant was having some sort of war with HQ and things were pretty strained.

This bloke arrives at the gatehouse or whatever and they have instructions not to admit him. Various phone calls ensue to Geelong management, who say he's not coming in. Bloke ultimately rings up HQ and asks them to tell Geelong to let him in.
HQ's response is along the lines, get yourself in or don't bother coming back.

He got in.
