This week, anyone can get a free step-up -- if you're choosing a car from the new Falcon range, that is.
In a deal giving buyers more than they pay for, City Ford in Sydney's Surry Hills and Rockdale has free upgrades on several models.
Buyers of six-cylinder Fairmonts can upgrade to a V8 for the same money -- pay $42,450 plus on-roads and save $5000.
Similarly, Futura buyers can upgrade to a Fairmont six at no-cost -- pay $38,015 plus on-roads and save $4435.
The Fairmont is equipped with four airbags, anti-lock brakes, climate control air-conditioning, cruise control, alloy wheels, a six-CD in-dash player, velour trim and full power (including adjustable driver's seat) and convenience items.
City Ford has a few 2003 LPG-only Futura sedans and wagons with savings of $4000 -- pay $35,200 plus on-road costs for the auto sedan and $36,650 plus on-roads for the auto wagon.
The Futura's standard equipment includes dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, air-conditioning, cruise control, alloy wheels, CD player and central locking.
Falcon marginally outsold Holden's Commodore last month to become our best- selling car, but Ford says this was more luck than a planned outcome. To the end of September, Falcon sales were up by 18,360, or nearly half, over the same period last year.
