Ford's Twin-cam Six & 5.4l V8!!!

Just got the new MOTOR mag....:s2: There's an article on Ford's twin-cam six cylinder engine and 5.4L V8.

Summary of article...
  • redesigned from top to bottom
  • power is up by more than 23kw, producing atleast 180kw in base Forte spec
  • XR6 and Fairmont Ghia to get DOHC Turbo producing 210kw
  • engine should remain around the 4.0L mark, but bore and stroke have reportedly been significantly altered, with the new DOHC six believed to be oversquare. According to sources, "capacity won't change in the wrong direction".

TICKFORD'S 5.4-Litre V8

With a few strokes of a keyboard, Ford Oz can order any number of powerful V8 engines direct from the factory in the US. The Cobra R 285kw 5.4L V8, the S/C 290kw 4.6L V8, and the 240kw 4.6L V8 from Mustang are all available via the power of the internet.

Ford Oz didn't do that. Instead, Tickford is developing a high-output version of the DOHC 5.4L V8. MOTOR understands Tickford will initially build 2000 of these V8s producing between 310-330kw. In house tweaks include fettling the camshafts and intake manifold.

Whats more, sources claim this is nor the new XR8 engine, but the V8 to power the T-SERIES range. A less-potent, around 260kw, V8 will go into XR8, although this hasn't been confirmed.

There y'are........straight from MOTOR!:s3

Motor have been saying that for nearly 12 months now. I would be very suprised if a 180kw motor finds it's way into a base car. I believe that the figure would be more around 165kw.

Then again.......

Yet to be confirmed although MOTOR is one of the agencies that signed the confidentiality agreement with Ford re Barra details. Take it either way I'd reckon... :s6:
