PR spin for now...
Ford Australia's recent string of record sales results and strong growth has continued during September, with the company recording its best September sales result since 1989.
While gains were made across a number of segments, record sales of its SUV and light commercial vehicle product lines contributed to Ford achieving its best September result in 15 years.
Ford sold 12,621 vehicles for the month, an increase of 310 units or 2.5 per cent compared to September last year.
“Ford's total SUV sales set a new record for the fifth month in succession during September, with 2,368 vehicles sold across the Territory, Escape and Explorer model lines for an increase of 18.2 per cent on the August result,” Ford Australia President Tom Gorman said.
“With 2,014 sales, Territory finished the month as the fifth highest selling vehicle overall on the Australian new car market and the number one selling SUV, which is its best result since going on sale in June.”
A number of models from Ford's light commercial vehicle ranks achieved record results during September, lifting total Light Truck sales to a new September record in the process.
“Courier 4x2 and Courier 4x4 both recorded best ever September results, with 274 sales of Courier 4x2 and 388 sales of Courier 4x4,” Gorman said.
“Transit had a record September and its best month overall since November 2002 with 343 sales, while Econovan achieved its best September result since 1999 with 100 units sold.”
Falcon Ute made a strong contribution to the September Light Truck record with 1,856 sales, while Falcon passenger sales totalled 5,572 units.
Total Ford sales year-to-date finished the month at 100,153 units, the best result to this point since 1995.
