Hey, im posting this for a friend of mine.

His car is a '93 build ED Gli Auto.

4.0ltr..done about 168,000 k's

His car is starting to get really bad fuel economy, i mean like 350k's for a full tank...driven conservately.

He also can smell fuel after its been driven for a bit.

It is leaking a bit of oil from somewhere...but he had a look and he cant find the source.

He's mainly interested in finding out why its using so much fuel tho...he's thinking head gasket...i just thought the other 2 bits (smell of fuel/leaking oil) would help someone reading this come to an answer.

Any info would be greatly apprecieated.

is the oil burnt (black?), how long since last oil change, cos if the oil is burnt, maybe it just needs a tune.

Also try reseting the computer, my mates was doing the same thing (fuel economy), and after we reset the computer it fixed it up.

Head gasket - undo the oil cap, if there is a white residue on the bottom of the cap, theres a prob with the gasket

sounds like something like the MAP sensor, or TPS configuration. Could also have dirty injectors or something like that. Might need a tune, new plugs etc. I would check the stuff out that EvilEA said above too...

Heavy fuel usage could also be a blocked dented or otherwise failed catalytic converter. But the fuel smell suggest a fuel line leak somewhere.
