After doing one of your regular drives to do to see medical speacalists i was doing a fuel consuption test on our car.

Todays trip was 340 km's for you in the usa thats212 miles.

Now the resualts were impressive to say the least.

Our car is the australian ford falcon 2007 model bf with the 4 litre straight 6 twin over head cam with the standard 4 speed auto.

we averaged today 35 mpg that is town driving and open road. the road it self is mixed flat roads and hills up and down in fact we climb roughly 450 meters in either direction as our town and the other town are both on top of a mountin range.

no this figure is out of a large family car.

its long term average is around 27 mpg and that includes major city driving and alot of heavy trailer towing.
This over a period of the 4 years we have owned it and the 160,000 km's we have done in it.

here in australia they are trying to sell hybrid cars that are not that much better then this for twice the price.
I ask why would anyone bother with them or a small 4cyl car.

The best i have got on a long trip is 38 mpg with 5 adults and their lugage in the car.

what do you guys get and specs of your car.

Direct Injection is going to make hybrids just about useless. The only time a hybrid outshines a regular gas burner is in the city with a lot of stop and go traffic.

My truck gets about 15 mpg if I don't hog it too much.

Thats impressive Goldie.

We have a 2010 FG XR6 Turbo Falcon and the trip computer long term average is 10.1 l/100ks which is about 23mpg. Thats US mpg. I think UK mpg is different.
