mad Fun Police are at it again.

This was written in a news article on ninemsn:

'The NSW Council of Social Service has called on the government to introduce a range of taxes, including a five per cent levy on four-wheel drives, motorcycles, powerboats and jet skis.'
source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/National/story_41436.asp

It truely appears that the NSW government, well every government in fact is really out to take the pleasures out of owning pleasure craft.

All the above vehicles cost heaps to begin with, then add the cost of insurance and rego and it really adds up. And now they want 5% more.

As someone whos loves bikes, the costs of owning and riding one is already immense and this'll hurt more.

This is getting very tiring.

Re: Fun Police are at it again.

I reckon that should put a 5% levey on drivers over the age of 70 instead.
In the SMH, a 70 year old woman lost control, drove up the footpath and skittled three kids, pinning a two year old under the car.
Add that to the old man that lost control and smashed into that childcare centre and it looks like old people want to take out as many youngones as they can before they pack it in.
IMO anyway.

Re: Fun Police are at it again.

Population is aging, more of the population is going to get older. No way in hell would they make changes to piss off all those voters..

By 2021 there will be more middle aged people than young people. So for me, pensions and free public health will be abolished before I ever really get to use them and by the time I get to 65, the retirement age will be lifted to around 80!

There are 4.1 million baby boomers in australia. That is people 40-58 y/o. We will see nearly 1/4 of the australian population slip into retirement over the next few years. Meanwhile, the 20's age group will basically stagnate numerically, from 2.83 million in 1999 to 2.93 million in 2021.

Now this 65+ group are have grown up with automotive transport being a primary form of transport. They are going to wish to continue driving beyond the point they can't walk anymore. Nearly 50% of this age group will end up living alone!

By 2050 the largest age group in australia by ~50% will be the 80+ one!!!

Age pensions will cost us 5% of GDP (up from 1.5% now) and health will cost us 15%(up from 8.5% now).

To pay for this estimates are that the GST would have to be raised to 30%!!

No way you say? The government would doubt or tripple taxes just because of my age!! Think again!

"And when the spending floodgates were lifted ahead of this year’s elections, the government’s consciousness of the growing electoral clout of the ‘grey vote’ was again apparent in the $600 cash bonus for pensioners, and in the decision to allow senior citizens to earn up to $32,612 before being required to pay income tax (compared with, say, $13,000 for a single-income family with a child under five)."

http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=1334

People aren't kidding when they talk about a major crisis due to the aged population.

I think we will see alot more of these types of incidents. Lot more people are going to be killed and injured for life like those poor kids at that preschool, government stands by and does nothing to stop it..

After all too busy installing speed cameras.. Affecting those in the weaker age group of 16-45 generally.

Re: Fun Police are at it again.

Thats why I'm going to save all my pennys and move to a third world country and live like a king for the rest of my life.
$3000 will let you live like a king with all the best food, servants and big house in Ecuador or similar country for a year.
Old peoples rights don't exist in those countries because they're mostly dead before they reach old age.

Either that or its riot time :)

Re: Fun Police are at it again.

baby boomers to place stress on budget over pensions, whereas our generation should be called the shafted generation. Not only will we be paying for these oldies pensions, but we also have to provide for our own retirement 'cos we will get nothing when it comes our time.
