I dont know much about these things so bear with me. But I understand that there is now Playstation 2, X Box, Gamecube and some other theing, cant think of the name.

I was at a mates house before and was playing Halo on X Box, which was a blast. Now the question is, which one is the best? Can the games interchange between consoles? He told me that there is a (illegal) chip floating around somewhere which allows your console to use any DVD game from any console, but I have certainly never heard of it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

its a matter of personal preference... you'll have to test drive all 3.

IMO... XBOX is big, heavy and ugly, PS2 is already looking outdated but has a big headstart on competition for games. Gamecube?... well ive briefly played one... prettier than the other 2 but i dont think it'll make much of a dent on Sony.

Story floating around that Nintendo are looking at getting out of manufacturing consoles and back to being more like a third party developer.
X box bites.
PS2 is best , might not have the tech edge but its the softward that counts.

one word concernig the xbox ---- "microsoft"!!!

I'd prolly go the ps2. there really good, plus they double as a dvd player(not that good from what ive heard, but still do the job) plus they have a huge gaming collection. And it should still be with us for a while to come. And also the relatively cheap. Like $400 i think. Might even be able to get a second hand one for cheaper??

Ive got both XBox and PS2.

Although decent new games for both are pretty thin at the moment, the PS2 has a decent selection released over the last 12months or so.
Xbox has Halo and thats about it.
There is some promising games for both consoles released soon, so it may be a good idea to check those out to see how many of those interest you. (try www.gamespot.com for up to date info)
Im looking forward to Sega GT2002 (Xbox), its looking like it may finally knock Gran Turismo off its perch.
(though they did say that about Gotham racing - Lame)

But if I had to choose one or the other, go the PS2, but in 6-12months it may be a different decision....

Hrrmm, such a difficult decision. Can you play Halo on an other console other than X-Box?

from my understanding, Halo is exclusive to XBox.

My mate and i are also on each other as to whether the xbox is beta or the PS2...... The only deal wit xbox is that it utilises direct x technology thus the sharper graphics but also has a large hard drive eliminating the need to purchase a mem card.....

The graphics and the xbox are not anything less than fantastic, but doesn't have games.

You'll most likely find that the xbox has a different type of cd format than that of a PS2 and gamecube and vice versa so it probably wont work....

some boffins have managed to get Linux on the Xbox too! :s2: its practically a computer so no supprise there.

apparantly some other boffins are workin on a N64 emulator to stick onto your xbox so you can play N64 games on it. the harddrive is big enuf to hold heaps of em.

of course the big supprise comes when they release the multi-console link thingy so you can play games accross the cable internet using wireplay or something
