hi guys, i thought i would like to offer some advice
i recently had the pleasure of working on a NC fairlane V8 and to say i was shocked to say the least at the prices of some parts.

1/ a thermostat housing $280.99 from ford

2/ intake gasket for a windsor, consisting of 2 maniflod gaskets and the 2 rubbers that sit under manifold $136.54.

well, when i found out those "RIP OFF" prices, i went non genuine and couldnt be happier

so just a word of warning, shop around and you will get good value, not this blatent THEFT.

p/s, i would like to know how the pricing on spare parts is set or justified

this im sure would be the tip of the ice burg on over priced genuine spares, any body else have similar problems??

V8 Prices suck, so far I have found,

Distributor cap $180 ($30 aftermarket)
Rocker cover gaskets $109 each!!!! ($12 aftermarket)
24Lb Injectors $1250 set ($685 from SVO)
Standard Lifters $1280 a set ($450 aftermarket or $200 from USA)

I just don't go genuine anymore unless I can't find anything else.

Another thing I can't understand, is that when I was looking for my 24lb injectors, I went to Ford, and they said they had one set left in the country and it's price $1250. I then phoned Mick Web SVO Motorsport, and they said they had to get them from ford, and again, it was the last set, but only $685. Same source, but nearly $600 difference.

I have emailed Ford Pricing in regards to the pricing on the V8 thermostat housing. I used the example of the water pump which is obviously much more complicated but priced at least $60-80 cheaper....The reply I got was something along the line of 'The price has been checked and found to be correct'
Even I am disgusted with the v8 pricing at times....
Another fine example is AU v8 leads.....try $695 a set. Same but in topgun is about $250 retail.....can you guess which ones I sell lots more of???? and im at a dealer...

Phoooaaaaaa, i'm glad i drive a half dozen(tm), just got leads for the EF and costed me $64.00 odd. I thought that was already steepish but sheez compared to $695.00

lol i was just about to use the AU v8 leads as a example!

watch out for the 5.0 timing cover and the lower inlet manifold the both corrode out
manifold $1890.00
t/cover $1090.00

a lot of ford parts prices are quite good and getting better but not where 5.0ls are concerned

found this odd....when replacing my spring saddles after market was $140....then thought i would ring the dealer to see what genuine cost was......near fell over.......$84 genuine.......least i save 2 cartons of stubbies

If it's V8, or T-Series you'll pay. I priced the AU boot lid trim which was $40-60 odd from memory, but the moulded trim which fits under the parcel shelf for premium sound setups (standard on t-series) cost over $300 for the same type of material!
