One day I called home and spoke to my girlfriend and said, "Honey, I have been asked to go fishing up in Queensland with my boss and several of his friends. We'll be gone for a week.
This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I've been wanting, so would you please pack me enough clothes for a week and set out my rod and tackle box. We're leaving from the office, and I will swing by the house to pick my things up.
Oh! Please pack my new, blue silk pajamas."
My girlfriend thought this sounded a little "fishy" but, being a good girlfriend, she does exactly what her I asked of her.
The following weekend I came home a little tired but otherwise
looking good.
My girlfriend welcomed me home and asked if I caught many fish. I told her, "Yes! Lots of Barramundi, some Bream, some Mangrove Jack, and a few Spangled Perch. But why didn't you pack my new, blue silk pajamas like I asked you to?"
My girlfriend replied, "I did. They were in your tackle box."
But instead of going home, I stayed out the entire weekend, hunting with the boys and spending my entire paycheck.
When I finally appeared at home, Sunday night, I was confronted by my very angry girlfriend and was barraged for nearly 2 hours with a tirade about my actions.
Finally she stopped the nagging and simply said to him "How would you
like it if you didn't see me for 2 or 3 days?"
To which I replied, "That would be fine with me."
Monday went by and I didn't see my girlfriend. Tuesday and Wednesday came and went and I still didn't see her.
On Thursday, the swelling went down just enough that I could see her a
little out of the corner of my left eye.
"When I joined the marines all they gave us was two sticks and a rock! And we had to share the rock between the whole platoon!"
