i have managed to stay outta trouble, but they need a witness statement. i saw an accident about 4 months ago, and sadly the statement is for the coroners report.

was sitting at lights on roe highway (for those in WA) and and old guy suddenly turned right across traffic. his excel got hit very hard by a bloke in a ute, spun this car 4 or 5 times over a couple of kerbs. anyway, the old guy didnt see the red arrow and just turned. well, it appears that the poor old fella got worse after he got to hospital and has now died.

it was a sad and needless waste of life. one minute this guy is going about his business, the next he is in an ambulance going to hospital. and all because of a short lapse in concentration. he could have been thinking about a thousand things...a potential wedding for a child or grandchild, the birth of a new grand child, what he is going to have for dinner, where he is going for hols, what he was going to get his wife for her birthday. then bang. no more.

the guy deserved to be shouted at, deserved to be fined and deserved a right bollocking. but nobody deserves to die for such a mistake.

further, the government could possibly start spending some of that money they make from speed cameras (yeah...your friggin cheque is in the mail) on fixing our roads. why the hell are there traffic lights on a major highway that carries truck s at 80kmh? why is there no overpass. mr gallop, mr court and every other stinking lowlife politiciian who has served in this state while this highway has traffic lights, i have something to say to you. all your bleating about road safety initiatives, all your bullshit about caring will NEVER get the blood off your hands.

finally, i hope i never see an accident like trhat again.

This is why traffic enforcement is such a big issue( NOT counting this BS obssession with 5kmh over etc ) .. It is SO easy to be alive one second and dead the next for a slip of concentration.
People don;t realise what sort of a weapon that a car can be ... having said that.. everyone take care!

I feel sorry for the old dude's family.

Serves as a reminder to us all... never take your eyes of the road, and pay attention to everything.

Sad to hear obout the old guy and feel for his family.
Every day when out on the road i see so many stupid things happening. What does concern me at times is, do i ever do stupid things and NOT realise it. Its easy to blame someone, but all it takes is a blind spot in the car when changing lanes and all care taken is out the window. Touch wood, not having had an accident in a long time means, either i drive with care or have been lucky, though i keep getting told there is no such thing as "Luck".

Sure hopes it stays that way.

my sympathyies for the old guys family and its not the way to go.

Was going to say other stuff about being in the same situation.. but i like the driver who hit the person in the wrong. but i dotn feel liek it.. its hard on us too...

Did you say you have sent a cheque to these bastards? Mate, NEVER pay an infringement notice unless you go to court. Everyone should do this and jam up the courts so they have to get rid of cameras.

My dad was in a similar accident on a Hwy except someone pulled out on him. His Camry folded up and he was evacced by chopper to Canberra hospital, having arrested due to punctured lungs and other injuries. The woman who pulled out on him eventually got a neg driving ticket for $160 or so.

The Police and the woman tried to claim he was speeding, however on retrieving the wreck (and cutting the dashboard pad off) the speedo needle had impacted the face at 76km/h (from memory). It was an 80 zone. See, the Police always try for the simple fix. There was no evidence of braking which matched my Dad's account of the accident.
