Well it is very rare that I (or anyone else here for that matter) gives GM credit for anything but this time I think they deserve it.
While im not sure if they are the first with this idea, its a damn good one. I know they will be some purists that will just go BAH! what a load of crap, I think it has some merit.
Its called the AUTOnomy and has a 'skate board' base (chassis) which is powered by 4 motors (one on each wheel), fuel storage, brakes, steering and other critical systems, and uses hydrogen. From this base you will be able to chose from a selction of bodies (ute, coupe, sedan etc), which then basicly clicks onto of the base.
Electronics are connect through an universial docking connection, and all systems needed for driving (steering, brake, acceleration and alike) are controlled by wire.
Also depending on what body type you chose, you could add on more fuel cells or power plates to give you more power and driving distance.
Personally I think this is the coolest thing I have seen for a long time. Just imagine being able to change your car by drving down to the nearest dealership.
I haven't got a pic of the chassis, but I do have one with a body on it from the detriot show.
There is an article in todays drive section in the age (bout time that came back) and a relatively large article in the latest CAR NEWS mag.

yes the idea does have merit.
*rallyman's imagination runs wild*
I love the idea of being able to totally changing your car to suit the situation or mood. Can't see it happening in my lifetime though.

The idea has a lot of merit - its just like racing R/C cars. When I raced them I had EL Falcon, F150 & Escort Cosworth shells, which I swapped depending on my mood and who I was racing - If the opposition were racing with Diablos and such, out would come
the F150.
Would love to do it for real....

Tell me that wasn't a twitch in some strange Japanese person's pants for a while - they're always first with the weirdest shit you can think of. Looks like their trademark work.

yes it is a far out idea, but one that wouldn't be to hard to implement.
As for adviliax mortus and knighty, of course it wont sound like a V8, nor will it ever be as good as a RWD 6 or 8. But sooner or later we will have to use cars such as these, try broadining your mind for a few seconds and you'll see that it is good.
