Some very interesting points raised by GP. Namely to do with the horsepower war and advertising.

Personally I can't believe they pulled the corolla ads. I thought they were top stuff. Would love to see a Falcon do that in an ad!

It's still on TV isn't it? Is this the one where they nearly crash into the cows at a T-intersection?

Yep that's the one. Apparantly it's been pulled from TV..

His comments are very much in line with a couple of threads in which we talked about this power war issue.

The fact is there will be a limit, it will be governed by cost and design but I seriously doubt the media will play a part this time round.

I hope you're right mate.. the last thing we need as enthusiasts (as well as Ford and other manufacturers in the current climate) is the media going and playing silly buggers, and making an issue out of it to suit their own agenda.

Let's hope the media as a whole has progressed (read - MATURED) since the start of the new millenium!

I think what happened was that it was taken of for the Christmas period because I dont recall seeing it during then but now its back on. Its a great ad.. the long version is the best with it ends with the family around the dinner table.. :s6:

The Media will never mature - "If it bleeds it leads"

They'll beat up a story that suits their agenda, in the name of "public interest" and wreak havoc. It may have been applicable in the interests of safety re:the supercar scare, but as we all know, the cars are so much safer now, there is nothing wrong with having cars of these huge power outputs - if thats what rows your boat. I just hope they never drop the V8 again.

What we need to do, or more correctly, what Ford and *whispers* Holden *talks normally again* needs to do is supply some top shelf performance cars to the owners and editors of the newspapers and TV stations on "long term loan". Get the heads of the media hooked on the performance cars and we wont hear another bad word about it.

Just a thought.......

I guess the media is a huge avenue for political gain. I think we have seen a couple of such occasions where this hysteria has tried to launch but thus far has not been successful.

I think we (enthusiasts) will be ok while ever the companies leave hi po cars to the performance arms. ( HSV, Tickford and the jap =) There was an excellent article published late last year, the author escapes me at the minute, but I liked what it was saying and I know certain people inside Tickford thought the same way.

If base cars, that have to cater to a different buyer dynamic become the tools for such debate there will be trouble. The manufactures have to leave the base models alone to a degree and let their performance arms carry the flag. No government in their right mind would step in under those circumstances in my opinion. ( fingers crossed )
