G'day all, just wondering if I've forgotten anything, or if I'm ready to go with the engine/transmission overhaul in the EA?
AU complete engine, ancilliaries, belt, auto bellhousing
EL auto
EA engine mounts
I haven't sorted out my radiator issue beyond returning the EF one I bought, and I'm not sure if my EL pedal box will be suitable, but my goal is to pull out the old engine/transmission and fit the new one all in one day, with the generous help of those who have offered.
From there I'll be able to sort out the details like new hoses, transmission wiring etc over time and ultimate start and drive the thing. The stages to follow include LPG and forced induction, but taking it all on at once is not a smart move.
Any recommendations welcome!

Rear main seal of engine might want to replace before fitting
Front seal of gearbox same deal, you dont want to do them after the fact cause of a leak.
Pedal box etc dont matter at this stage if you just want auto and motor swapped over, a day will be no problem, the gearbox and engine in the car, drain them both and remove the tailshaft, and the exhaust, drop the front sway bar, and remove radiator, power steering pump can sit on the battery tray, the a/c will need to be de-gassed or the pump removed and sat to one side, the inlet manifold if you remove it will the engine mount on the passenger side so much easier to work with.
So Jack whens the plan, I have Mick wanting help as well.

Cheers for that Jase! The rear main seal etc is the one thing I wasn't sure about. Any idea on price for the seals? I presume I'd be asking for AU seals, not EL. The EA one was done when I had the manual put in and I was told the part itself isn't too pricey.
Many of the ancilliaries as well as the radiator etc is out of the car, so a solid day should be enough. My biggest issue at the moment is a very unknown work schedule for the next few weeks, but I'll be very glad to know that I can have a rest from collecting more parts.
Thanks to Mick I have absolutely all the EA GL parts I need too. :s5

Jack, a rear seal should be somewhere around $25.00. When putting it in you just have to make sure it goes it perfectly square or it'll leak from day 1.
Have fun! Make sure you post some pics!

when ur doin the seals, i would the torque converter off and empty as much of the old fluid out of it as possible, otherwise the only way of getting all the old/contaminated/dirty/metal dusty??!!/gooey/pongy/gluggy/yoggy/soggy/froggy/boggy/doggy/bits o' debris/worn shit fluid out of the tranny will be a flush. be carefull when refitting it as there two splines it needs to go on, the inner and outer of the torque converter. something like that i havent down it for a while now but im sure one of the guys on here will be able to correct me or add some more info.
although u wont get all of the fluid out, u should get most of it.
i would check everything that might be a pain when the motor's in the car - leads?, sensors, gaskets, water pump, sump gasket, front main seal, etc. it might not be worth doin some of the stuff if its a pretty low k motor, do u know how many its done?
A couple of points to make. Regarding the transmission, I am not going to touch it because it only has to last several months until I can afford a rebuild. The AU engine with the turbo is still only producing pretty weak amounts of power. Not sure about the lines, that's one I'll have to think about.
needturbo, the engine has done 55,000 kms and includes the original water pump. I'm wanting to take my chances with the leads because the cash flow is a bit tight now and I'd want to get high quality items. Again, the engine only has to last several thousand kms.
Thanks guys!

if u got a multimeter u can check the resistance of the leads, i forgot what range is ok, i think maybe 13? ohms to to max 17? ohms, dont take my word for it just a "guess". anyone here know?
