Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

Once. 65 mph in 50 mph zone. $165 ticket and 4 points (later reduced to 2 point, but I had to pay $50 court fees).

I've never been caught speeding, and personally have no qualms about speed cameras etc. Thats not to say I never speed, I probably am speeding 20% of the time. I think why people get caught so much and whinge so much is cos they are speeding all the time or a majority of the time and in stupid places like well used main roads!!

My personal opinion is if you are dumb enough to speed 90% of the time or in places where coppers are sure to hang out you deserve a ticket!
How about being smart enough to speed 90% of the time and not get into/make trouble?

10% is for the speed traps.

I didnt even know you could get pulled over for that. Seriously.
Yep, I hate it when the black or latino cops give me a hard time cause I'm a white boy.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

worst one was my first one- 97 mph in a 65 mph zone... on my way to work when i was 18... 10 points off my license and a $85 fine. driving my 1987 cavalier 2.0 4 cylinder topped out. im just glad i wasnt driving my caprice at the time- that thing would do 150.
my most expensive one was 70 in a 40-$265- some kids had gone down the interstate that night and pulled all the speed limit signs down through town so i didnt realize the speed had changed.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

Only been caught just the once, back in 1997, I was speeding back to town, doing about 130Km in a 110 Km zone, on a country road, that is known for it's very high death toll, it's the sort of road where it invites you to want to speed. The cop had a speed radar mounted on the light bar. As the cop car pasted me, he did a fastest U-tern I have ever seen, I reckon he almost lost it, still he caught up fast. Years later found out the type of radar used is now illegal because it's been found to be very unreliable. Yeah I was speeding, was being stupid. The cop was very reasonable about it.

Now I drive a 1991 NC Ford Fairlane 5.0 litre V8 it's a bit heavy on the fuel consumption. Never had a speeding ticket driving it, I want to keep it that way. It's very easy to put your foot down and be over the speed limit.

To things that I love about the Fairlane is

1) Cruise Control, about the best thing ever invented, I would never be a car without it.

2) Digital Speedo, also the best thing ever invested. This one thing has saved me a ton of times. It's very easy to see the speed, no questions asked.

I drive lots of other cars at work, all with analog displays, and no cruise control, and always having to check the speed, and I always drive slow, just to be on the safe side.

There is nothing as relaxing like setting the cruise control to just little bit over the speed limit and be safe in the knowledge, your not going to get a ticket, and be able to cruise past everyone else.

I figure my Fairlane has saved me a lot of speeding fines, so much so that it's paying for the extra fuel consumption.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

I was caught doing 130 in a 55. I was driving a 2001 Ford Crown Vic, it was an old cop car. I lost my driver's license for three months. The other tickets I had weren't a big help either.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

I got caught doing 175km in an 80 zone.. in my old eb fairmont... Lucky for me it was a cop with a radar gun, I went back and talked to the guy and I got away with it... haven't sped down that street since.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

I'm not sure of the number, but it's around 10 over the last 24 years. The worst was doing 105 mph in a 65 mph zone. I was on my motorcycle. My rearview mirror was loose and when I went to adjust it all I could see behind me was flashing blue and red lights. The CHP Mustang was right on my tail. I pulled over immediately. The cop was cool though. We talked bikes for a little bit and then he wrote me up as "+15". That's the difference between a few hundred dollars and going to jail.

Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?

Havent been caught yet (knock on wood) but i was caught burning out. I took the back roads and he cut me off on the main road. No ticket.. about 3 weeks before that i rolled my pickup. Which coulda got me; reckless driving, to fast for road conditions, and speeding. No tickets there either, talk about luck and i was only 16.
