Re: Have you ever been caught speeding?
Only been caught just the once, back in 1997, I was speeding back to town, doing about 130Km in a 110 Km zone, on a country road, that is known for it's very high death toll, it's the sort of road where it invites you to want to speed. The cop had a speed radar mounted on the light bar. As the cop car pasted me, he did a fastest U-tern I have ever seen, I reckon he almost lost it, still he caught up fast. Years later found out the type of radar used is now illegal because it's been found to be very unreliable. Yeah I was speeding, was being stupid. The cop was very reasonable about it.
Now I drive a 1991 NC Ford Fairlane 5.0 litre V8 it's a bit heavy on the fuel consumption. Never had a speeding ticket driving it, I want to keep it that way. It's very easy to put your foot down and be over the speed limit.
To things that I love about the Fairlane is
1) Cruise Control, about the best thing ever invented, I would never be a car without it.
2) Digital Speedo, also the best thing ever invested. This one thing has saved me a ton of times. It's very easy to see the speed, no questions asked.
I drive lots of other cars at work, all with analog displays, and no cruise control, and always having to check the speed, and I always drive slow, just to be on the safe side.
There is nothing as relaxing like setting the cruise control to just little bit over the speed limit and be safe in the knowledge, your not going to get a ticket, and be able to cruise past everyone else.
I figure my Fairlane has saved me a lot of speeding fines, so much so that it's paying for the extra fuel consumption.
