what's the diffrence between sohc and dohc engines

SOHC is a single over head cam engine

DOHC is a double over head cam engine

240rwkw slug.

Hello,

Where it can get confusing is a " V " engine. With DOHC per bank, it is called a Quad cam. Some engines may have 1 cam per bank, yet still be called twin overhead cam. ( some Subaru engines ) The main advantage of DOHC is it makes it easier to have 4 valves per cylinder, which makes for better performance.

Particularly at higher RPM...as in the New Edge Cobra / Mach I vs GT scenario.

BTW 3V is SOHC. With 2 intake vlaves per head.
