Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

i'm no expert but the software i used to run put them in 'quarantine'.. god knows where that was but i think it stopped the threat, sounds like your 'chest' is the same

Edit: that your chest bit sounds rude,

Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

Thanks guys .... think I have it licked

The 'Chest' is a quarantine folder that apparently keeps the nasties operating on the comp. I have reinstalled Spybot Search & Destroy & was suprised there was only 3 nasties there.

I re ran the scan after I found out you shouldnt open any applications when the scan is running & there was a Joker virus still there but gone now

I also ran a registry repair thinggy & it fixed a problem.

My net speed is back upto 33.6bps not the 28.8 it was running on earlier & WOwwwwwwwwww at the speed of my comp again .......

Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

hahah mum, best if you delete the infected files also if they cant be Cleaned.
Note if you use XP you should have restore turned off, otherwise the bug is still in the registry.

Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

Delete to recycle bin - empty bin. = gone.

whatever anti virus software you use keep it up to date.

make sure you have good firewall software installed, (zone alarm rates consistantly in the top 3 and is free)

If your not sure about any webpage DON'T CLICK ON THE LINKS!

Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

you guys have to careful about some viruses. even if you determine that a file is a virus, DO NOT DO ANYTHING! in many cases just right clicking to delete it will activate a dormant virus. leave it to the experts and the programs they have written! i learnt that lesson from nimda. any attempt to delete it and it just began to clone itself all over to my hard drive :(

Well, if you take a pic of your "chest" and send it to me I might be able to determine how to best activate them

Re: Help needed by Comp GURUS :(

does your antivirus program have a website? stupid question really lol my bad u should go there and theres a good chance u can look up the viruses it found and itll possibly have the proper procedure how to get rid of them from your system completely, i know symantec does this but im not sure about other programs.
