Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

we just got a fuji s5000 for $500 and i can tell you it's a top cam IMO.

it's a 3.2mega pixel but fuji have this tech that gives it 6.0 mega pixels effectively. 10x optical zoom, etc etc. of course that price range you said there are alot of choices.. look around and ask plenty of questions. depends on your uses for the camera too

Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

I have an Olympus C-450
Pros:-
4.0 mega pixels
3X Optical Zoom
Macro settings
15 frames/second Quicktime jpegs
Idiot Proof... point and shoot
Price .. i got mine for around $400 4 months back, with some other goodies thrown in
Can take a great photo without messing about with settings
Cons:-
Default setting is 2288*1712.. Great for quality but resize time for posting
EATS batteries on that setting

Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

Ive got an Olympus C-750UZ
4 Megapixels
10x Optical Zoom
Quicktime Movie
Full Auto and Full Manual modes
Runs on AA Batteries so if you run out with the rechargables you can use normal batteries, but they dont last very long.

Paid $1100 about 8 months ago.

It is a great camera can highly recommend it and the Olympus brand.

Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

My Dad has a Nikon, seems to be very good, only problem is it has froze up a couple of times and we had to take the battery out for like 10 minutes which is a pain

Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

I actually use Nickel Metal Hydride Rechargables AA's that i bought from Jaycar, on the 2288 x 1712 pixel setting i get about 200 MB of photos out of it on one charge using flash a bit the zoom a fair bit and the big screen.

Canon are probably the best digital cameras - have a look at www.dpreview.com.

Probably the Canon A80 would suit you te best.

Re: Help with purchase of Digital camera?????.

my digital camera recommendations.

Stick with a known camera brand like Canon , Minolta , Olympus etc.
2.0 Megapixels or greater. 2.0 megapixels is all you need to give you a high quality A4 sized print using a good photograghic quality inkjet printer.
3x or greater Optical Zoom . Digital Zoom does not give as good a quality picture.
AA size batteries. Invest in some Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargable batteries and keep some Duracells as emergency back ups.
Video capture with sound.

There are plenty of good Digital Cameras on the market in your price range my wife has a Canon A40(which is now no longer avaliable) and is fantastic for taking snapshots of people, cars and scenery etc.
I hope this is some help.
