mad HELP?! What should I do?

Hey guy's,

A dilemma for you. You have a good, straight XA GS 302:

http://www.fordforums.com/attachment...chmentid=15715

Nice car. But it's a V7 not a V8 anymore cos I think it's burned the valves. The guy at the garage has offered me an old Barina (87 or 8 or something - the boxy Suzuki Swift one) as a swap. I'm toying with telling him to stick the CD system in the Barina and we've got a deal.

What would you do?

Anyone got a better offer?

Depressed.

Don't do it! Fix the V8. Lets face it do you really want a rice burner?

Re: HELP?! What should I do?

Yea but I can't afford to fix it, and I'm certainly not mechanically-minded enough to sort that out. Cheers for your support - there's a big side of my head saying the same 'DON'T DO IT.....'

Still depressed

Re: HELP?! What should I do?

No dont swap you would be fully ripped off mate
id say your car would be worth about $6000 if its in original condition
looking at the photo it does look good.
save some money up fix the motor

Holden Barina 87-88 according to red book.com is valued at $800-1800

Id buy it for $800 lol

Re: HELP?! What should I do?

Swap a Barina for an XA?! You'd have to be completely out of your mind to even consider it!! How many XA's do you see on the road these days? Shite, I can't even say I've seen 1 in a few years that wasn't behind a rope!!

Hold onto it.. geez, if I had somewhere to keep it, I'd pay 10 times what that Barina is worth for it! When I do get the space to put a do-er-uper, XA is at the top of my list!

Re: HELP?! What should I do?

if you go the barina you will in no doubt be dissapointed and will regret doing it.stay with the 8, you shoul be able to get the head rebuilt at a reasonable price.

Re: HELP?! What should I do?

Thanks guys!!

Exactly what I needed to hear - so many non-car-enthusiasts umming and ahhing and telling me to cut my losses was sapping my energy and enthusiasm for my baby. How short-sighted. Combined with the advice in the clevo-tech section you've all helped me see things as they are.

The XA stays. And f*** it; if I have to get public transport for a bit I might get healthier... This car is a 200k/week daily driver and that's prob not helping my wallet with fuel n wear n tear. MAybe get it fixed THEN look at a Barina (for the daily slog only).

Onya,

Stu
