My hate for edited by russellw has increased dramatically!!! I can now safely say (before i wasn't that sure) speed cameras are for revenue raising!!! What is our society supposed to do when the leaders we apoint hire goons dressed in blue to rob us on a daily basis. First fine 54km/h in 50 zone (thats what they tell me) completely unintentional, on my way to the shops (I dont quite think I was endangering any lives). 5 min later on the way back I noticed the camera thought nothing of it but instinctively slowed down a bit. This week unexpectedly got the 2 fines for that date and time slot $125 each first 54km/h second 55km/h. I'm sure anyone here who drives can agree that you cant constantly be watching your speedo oblivious to the events around. They constantly show us how much further our stopping distances are travelling a few km/h more than the speed limit but do they ever tell us how much our stopping distance increases by not noticing a child run onto the road for 1/2 a sec longer than usual because our eyes are glued onto the speedo.

The third fine I can accept a bit easier but it still doesn't justify it (they still haven't mailed it to me so dont know exactly how fast I was travelling). A few days after my expensive visit to the shops (before getting the first two fines) I was driving in a 20km/h hour zone riddled with speed bumps and waddaya know I notice a camera just as I hit around 30km/h after accelerating from the first bump. Now before all you hypocrites start tellin me you know the speed limit blah blah blah I would like to say who here travels 20km/h between speed bumps and seriously I doubt anyone does!

Hey drone351, that sounds like you've been dealt a harsh blow. Speed infringements at such low speeds just don't make any sense. At low speeds, the ability to hold a set speed is much harder. I heard a while back, and its probably not true, but the 'cut off' for a ticket being issued is 110% of the speed. This is fine in a 60 zone (66 cut off) but when you get down to speed limits of 25 km/hr or 50 km/hr the gap between the speed limit and a ticket is ~5 km/hr. Well its a theory anyway....

And I agree, dron351, I'm so paranoid about not going over the speed limit I probably spend 10 seconds out of every minute in the car checking out the speedo!
