So its very similar to the car I had, except for the 4.0 and manual part. The insurance I had for my car was just 3rd party fire and theft. As I see no point in paying 1000+ full comp for a car thats only worth about 4500.

So the hardest bit is telling them exactly what the car is. It is a 90 Fairmont, but looks like an ed XR. The last car I just said that it was a 88 fairmont ghia, which technically it was, but I was always worried if it was to get stolen that they might say..WTF..it has XR bits which makes it more prone to being stolen; and hence I would be up shyte creek.

I guess the XR front is a body mod, but its factory at the same time :/

Should I just say its a fairmont like the last car and pay my $30 per month as I was qrapped with that

In my opinion it would be best just to tell them exactly what's been done to the car..
In the end you may have to pay a little more and know they aren't going to question you when it comes time to use them.. and trust me they will try to wriggle their way out of responsibility anyway they can..

Well it has to be insured as the same kind of car it is registered as. Therefore you should insure it as a 1990 Fairmont. But then there's a little piece of common law known as duty of disclosure....

Which basically means you should advise them of the mod. The fact it's a FoMoCo part is irrelevant - it's a non standard mod.

If in doubt, call them and ask the question. You shouldnt need to advise them of a name or anything, just ring and ask.

If you are going to take the risk of selective disclosure to the insurer, you may as well take the risk and go without insurance.

Mate I work in insurance. The best thing to do is insure it as the 90 fairmont but note that it has accessories including bodykit, wheels etc. If it has a market value of say, 3 grand and you paid 4.5 for it you can also insure for an agreed value.

I would definantly say tell them if you were unlucky enough to hit a merc, bmw, lightpole etc and they inspected your car i would 90% guarentee that they would refuse to pay for failure to disclose modifications, would you expect them to pay out on a claim if your car had a bodykit, 18" wheels or suspension modifications and you hadnt told them about these? it all comes under the same umbrella and its definantly not factory even if you optioned it from factory with say XR8 wheels and a sunroof you still must tell them, otherwise the assumption is the car is bog standard with no options or modifications of any sort.
