I appologise if this has been asked a thousand times but I have heard that many variations on what HO stands for. What is the truth, I know it is out there somewhere!!
In the US it stood for High Output
It was launched here as HANDLING OPTION however the supercar scare was just beginning, which may have caused ford to shy away from calling it High Output instead calling it Handling Option.
This thread is unlikely to give you a definitive answer, going by previous threads on the topic people will argue about this till they are blue in the face.
Probably best to clarify if it is HO for the XY GT or some other Ford product as there are a few interpretations, all of which have been debated on here in the past.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I searched for this on the forum but had no luck, so I apologise that I have inadvertently rehashed an old topic.
My objective was not for a debate but to see if anyone REALLY knew.
sorry, I wasn't meaning to criticise you, nor did I mean I was angry that the topic was started.
I just wanted to point out that you were likely to see more people continue to feed you one of the many variations you had already heard
The limit on search characters to 3 letters or more, obviously makes searching for the topic a little difficult.
Yep, for the GT's it was Handling Option. If you are refering to the 5.0 V8 released in the Falcons in 1992 it did stand for High Output...same as the Mustang. Why they called a 165kw V8 High Output never really made sense to me.
