I ask people their thoughts on the following.
Given the fact that both Ford & Holden use a majority of the same component suppliers, & in certain applications, exactly the same parts.
Also the fact that Ford's "concept" vehicle the R5, and Holdens cross 8, seem to have some startling similarities.
Would you support a joint venture between holden & ford to produce a common vehicle for both the australian market, AND for possible export?
Would you view is as "sleeping with the enemy"?
Would you see it as admitting weakness & asking for help?
Or would you just ignore it hoping that it will just disappear as a bad idea?

As I suggested the joint venture may also be aimed at the export market (an area that aus car manufacturers have a poor track record), that being the case I would think that the ACCC would at least in some ways support the concept.
A Buick powered Falcon with "worse-than-live-axle" IRS and an auto gearbox with the intelligence of a used tissue? Erm...
Seriously though, it will never happen. Competition breeds improvement, and if there is no competition, there will only be stagnation.
And who's to say a joint venture wouldn't be jointly damaging if it failed?
