Fair enough I reckon, too. If the company is making all this money then surely some of it should be passed onto the people who make it happen (and I don't mean senior management either who just sit on their dates all day).

That's fair enough, but it is interesting to note that Holden workers on the assembly line are the second highest earning workers in the car manufacturing business in the world behind Mercedes Benz.

18% over three years?!?!?! You have got to be joking!!!!

Inflation running at around 2-3%, and these are people who are able to buy discount cars for themselves and family members, many of them selling them at a profit soon after buying them.

They are hardly hard done by, hardly underpaid and an 18% payrise is one sure way of ensuring that Australian Manufacturing (Holden) becomes increasingly uncompetitive on the global stage. And what then?? What happens when it becomes much, much cheaper to produce Commodores in Brazil or China or anywhere else.

A fair and equitable pay rise?? DEFINITELY and good luck to them!!

But this is outright Greed and demonstrates no long term appreciation of just how delicately placed Australian manufacturing is.

The company would have the cash to pay them higher wages as they certainly aren't putting it into developement of the Commodore.

It's the same car virtually unchanged that they have been dishing up for nearly 15 years.

I would suggest it is already cheaper to produce anything in these countries then in Australia and in particular in China where the labour costs are a fraction of ours. Our cost of living is not comparable to these countries so why should workers be screwed and told that their salaries are so much higher then overseas workers and hence trim their pay increase demands. Even with executive salaries, the same position in Sydney will pay more then in Adelaide because the cost of living in each state is taken into account.
