There is an article in todays SMH DRIVE section that Holden was fudging the weight figures on the VY Commodore by about 50kg, by using tare weight and not kerb weight !

It was on 2GB also !

So it weighs more then they state it does. Thats going to have a negative effect on time comparisions. Is it all VY models, including HSV?

Doesn't surprise me! They always have to have an "edge" over Ford whether it's in the V8 Supercars or on their production models. It's quite rediculous if you ask me. What's so hard about giving the correct unit of weight of a car?

I can't scan the SMH article so you will have to go out and buy the paper. It also has an article on how Ford used Feng Shui on the BA interior. Worth a look.

So are they lighter or heavier??? I would wanna hope that they are lighter, or as ford.boy suggested have they given the press lighter cars. If they are actually heavier then for those who follow the times of cars (0 - 100 and 1/4) it looks worse for us as their cars are getting quick times and being actually heavier than posted. Hmmm this post doesn't make sense. Been here at work since 11pm.....2 more hrs :)

well by the time they drive them up to the wieghing bays im sure the gen3's have used 50kg in oil anyway..

seriously though...its not good news for us if all this time the commy has also been pushing around extra weight then w thought and is still beating us..but not by much

By reporting a lower weight Holden is able to run tests etc at lower weights including AS2877 or whatever the fuel economy one is?

This may seem like a small issue, however under AS rules once fuel consumption rises above 10.0l/100km the graduations rise in 0.5 lots, with figures rounded. Say the VT did a 12.4. That would equate to a sticker on the windscreen of 12.5. Then they 'lose' say 50kg and the consumption drops to 12.2 - a small difference. However, the consumer now sees a sticker and brochure figure of 12.0 - a stunning 0.5l/100km improvement.

It's all a game.

I await the FPV Blueprint mag that has an entire article on how weight figures are measured (like HSV did on power figures).
