A lot of you may be aware that there is a concern with the GEN 3s lack of low end torque. While it still may have more than the old 5L it may feel like it doesnt because it has even a lot more torque at 4400rpm. Will GEN 4 address this problem? I doubt it, having looked at the stats on the new 'Vette and I think the reason is this. The bore is a lot bigger on the Gen 3 than the stroke, which is unlike the Ford 5.4 where the opposite is true. Unfortunately for Holden, GM decided to make the bore even bigger again to get 6L - I would have liked to see them stroke it instead to flatten the torque curve. I dont think boring it would reduce low end torque, but the kws per NM ratio would better the kw, and may produce the peak torque at an even higher rpm (like i said not worsening the low end torque, but bettering the high end power and torque). Having said this, I am sure we will get a few people in here, making the claim that Ford uses better technology to get low end grunt from only 5.4L instead of 6L - let me say this, its not the technology, its just the differences in the way the two engines were designed based on the bore/stroke ratio - which i think is unfortunate, but obviously this was done deliberately for the Corvette. It would be nice to see Holden use the 6.2L version of the gen 4 across the range, in different tunes to address this matter - 6.7L on HSV
The problum with low end touque is theres never much of it on standed engines, yes the LS1's are slugs below what....3500rpm but a commen thing for LS1 owners to change is there diff gears (say from 3.07 to 3.91) which allows the revs to get up there without fuel econemy suffering to much.
Theres nothing wrong with reving a engine alittle to get some power out of her,it just adds to that sweet sound to.:)
Gen 4 should be interesting when it hits out local car market,Im a big fan of big cube motors so im looking forward to it.
6 litres with forched induction...woooow look out!

There will be a higher spec Vette in a few years with a 2 Cam (in block, not DOHC) V8 of unconfirmed size (7L perhaps?). Expect 500+hp.

What sweet sound. Gen 3's sound crap. I've heard vacuum cleaners that sound better than most LS1's.
True.
You might get the odd nice one, but usually they sound like slotcars, at best four cylinders.

If they have that sort of power and torque, I hope they are going to strengthen the body shell of the Commode because I have heard before this was a slight problem when the Gen III was introduced, and if they do, this will only add weight.
