Thats where the problem lies. The LS1 is bassically 225kw out of the box where the Windsor is 175. Tickford then tunes it to many different specs, however to get beyond 175 it requires them all to have some sort of tickford treatment.
Compare this to the Holden situation, the only ones that has anything done to them are the HSV's. Shows you how much more work Tickford does to the cars and also where the difference lies between the SS and XR8.
Where the SS is really nothing more than base model commodores with a few items from the parts bin. Eg anyone can order a Commodore Exc V8 with FE2, LSD, Powerwindows, passenger air bags etc to make it perform exactly like an SS. The only difference being that it doesn't get the body kit (however can order a Holden By Design kit).
On the other hand the XR8 is totally different from the the base model. Not only do you get increased spec but the motor spends alot of time at the Tickford factory, the suspension setup can not be order onto a forte (unlike FE2). Not to mention that the front end looks nothing like a base model with a tacked on body kit (sorry commodore).
In other words XR8's almost have more re-enginering than what happens with a HSV Clubsport. (hmm wonder which motor is easiest to get the power out off) Then think about the fact that the T-series has even more work done on it.
Really when you look at it that way makes the current XR8 seem a bargain compared to the SS and the T3 an even bigger bargain compared to the HSV's.
