Was in the pokies the other night, put in $3, won $60. was stoked! while i was in there, there were two old ladies (about 70-80) putting in coins like you have never seen. im talking cashing in $50 notes one after the other, winning, then putting it straight back through the machines again.
i duno about everyone else, but as soon as i win (even$10), im outa there. i just dont know how people can gamble their life away!
My Girlfriends parents are really in to the pokies. They play almost every day. Her old man will generally play after he's finished work, sometimes they win but when he keeps losing he just pumps the money in.
The other trap is, if you put $50 in, play until you've got $5 left, then win $55, you walk away with $60 but didn't win $60, only $10 was gained.
I find the pokies really boring and unentertaining.
Apart from the fact that I don't have a lot of money to throw around, I don't get any enjoyment out of sitting and pushing a button over and over again.
I don't have a problem with putting a few dollars in every now and then but I couldn't be so enthralled and entertained by it and sit in front of a machine for hours on end like some do.
Like you said, if I put a couple of dollars in and won a little, I'd be perfectly happy walking away with my 10 bucks!
Even with scratchies if i get spend $1 and win $2 i take it lol! But i do doller drinks at a night club i frequent so $1 is useful :D
I dislike like pokies ALOT. Everytime i go near them with my family, the grandparents are drawn :S Same with my mum and her fiance :S I hate them with a passion.. and i agree with auforte, they are just so boring!!

they can get repetitive, i wont go out of my way to play them, but if i am at a place with friends i may throw a few $$ in, i remember one morning afterworking nihtshift we went to the local, i just got paid and thoiught will spend 50, put it in, put on max credits and lines, so it was almost $10 a spin, second spin took ou the highest possible prize and walked out of pub with $1500 in my hand, needles to say i darnk a bit of it and called in sick the following night
I'd rather punt on an animal racing around a track or on sports. Much more satisfying. Plus you can get shattered at the races and hurl drunken abuse at the horse/dog as it runs past (taking your dough with it) lol
Pokies are a nightmare for the family when someone is addicted to them.....Personal experience lets call it & NO it wasnt me, I was the one trying to find food for the table when all the money was gone :(
I can put $1 or $2 in but like most of you I get really bored & if I happen to win anything it goes into my pocket ......
