Ok I reckon it will be fine but despite the claims of any manufacturer I am yet to see a series one car come out of the box and not have the problems that will require going back to dealerships for fixs.
I have always maintained buying series two is the best way to go but it depends on the content of the changes. I broke my own rule and got the series one au, and although it probably has had the most amount of things go wrong with it, they haven't been bad and touch wood the dealership hasn't done too much damage fixing what has need to be done.
The fact is you can buy a lemon in any model. With any model release the manufacturers always claim this "model has been the most extensively tested model in history" But it never seems to matter when it gets to market. The diffs in the IRS should never made it to market, but they either had no alternative and hoped like hell no one would complain or their testing has a short fall that the deficiency in the diffs weren't detected in 2 years of development. Some cars were so bad they should never have left the factory.
You concerns about a first run of a model are a bit different to series one concerns.
With out a shadow of any doubt the cars made towards say dec 2002 will have better fit and finish. You only need to look at 98 falcons to 2001 falcons to see the difference. I don't believe the next model will be any different.
Big changes to drive lines for me will mean waiting until enough time has passed to see what problems need to be sorted. I don't like my cars being test beds for dealer training days
