How happy are you with tradesman that work on your car

I am becoming more and more disappointed with the work being done by tradesman on my cars on a daily basis.I am a motorbike mechanic and when i was doing this job nothing more than 100% was good enough for me and my customers. All the work i have had done recently has been Crap. Had my XR8 red stripes painted the colour of the car the other day and was disgusted with the work and am not paying for it, it was the wrong colour not covered with paint properly and has runs in it. Just wondering what you guys think of the work getting done my trades people today.

Re: How happy are you with tradesman that work on your car

VERY unimpressed with a lot of guys down where i am, for a city this big and the amount of smash repairers, mechanics etc etc its absolutely pathetic. Our family and friends now have a list of who is good to use, and who shouldnt be trusted with the keys to a car at all costs.

So if ever you're getting work done in Wagga Wagga, let me know.....

i hope your joking man, thats a poor attitude...

Handing over your hard earned for sub-standard workmanship is not on..

I refuse (within all reasonablity) to pay anyone for something i can or could do myself..Having a hoist helps alot

I hear nothing but horror stories otherwise...

Re: How happy are you with tradesman that work on your car

You gotta be kidding...
After working for the last 2 weeks the last thing i wanted to do was work on my own car so I get Auto masters to c/o the clutch assemly I supplying the clutch..
I fly back to Perth go to take it for a spin & find WTF is goin on here? I only have to take my foot off the clutch 5mm & im gone, bloody hard to try to drive it like this .
So i open the bonnet to adjust the cable to find hey... There is no adjustment on it, they have wound the adj nut all the way so that its only holding on by 3 threads!!
So im driving it around today & something is rattling its nuts off , loud enuff for passerby's to look at my nice car funnily.
I have a look & they havent even put the fork cover back on properly, the small capscrew I used isnt anywhere to be found
Typical, Lets just say its going back tomorrow..
so they either havent used the right t/out bearing, or the clutch wasnt the right one inwhich i asked them to cross check for me as it was 2nd hand but not used..
Otherwise its the cable inwhich i doubt, which leaves me having to use spacers where it goes into the bellhousing to give me adj up top..
Knew i should have done it myself.. Charged $789

I don't subscribe to that attitude.

It comes down to paying good money and you expect a professional job. There is nothing worse than a tradesman with no professional pride in their work.

I had a spoiler sprayed on my last car. It had runs, orange peel, thin edges, they didn't sand the surface down so it had scratches as well. They chipped the paint putting it on the car and touched it up with a brush. They wired the brake light wrong and blew the fuses.

I took it back to them and complained. Their response?

"What do you expect for $200?"

I told them that that's what they quoted and I expected a professional job.

I will never go back to them.
