How hard is it to drive in a straight line?
On Tuesday morning I drove Dad's new escape down to the local volkswagen dealer in Geelong, as I had to pick him up cause he'd just dropped mums car in for service. As most Geelong residents would probably know, they have redone Mercer St with a centre medium strip and in between every 3 parallel car parks, they have put a square concrete box with a tree planted in each one.
Anyway getting to the story, I had just pulled up outside the dealer when I heard this loud bang. I looked in the rear view mirror to see this Falcon panel van basically airborne. He had gone straight over one of the concrete boxes with both LHS wheels, at what looked to be approx 70km/h, and had completly smashed in the rims and tyres.
I'm sitting in the car s**ting myself watching this car slide along the road. Fortunately he slid right past the car, only missing me by about 1 foot and slid into a carpark about 4 spaces further along.
I got out and had a look at the car and the wheels were about half their original size and all that was left of the tyres were rubberbands The guy driving was OK, and he was just lucky that he was the only car around as it was peak hour.
This is the second time I have nealy been cleaned up driving Dads new car, both of which have not been my fault. This and the fact that the car is not even a month old.
The guy wasn't drunk, so i guess it had to be a loss of concentration, or maybe he was talking on the phone.
