confused How to make a basic website.????

Is there anyone on this forum who could explain in layman's terms how to make a basic website.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated, as i would like to set one up to show my cars etc.

I'd like to think i'm not the only "dummy" here and think it would help a lot of other people out as well.

Thanks in advance

Jon

COPY!

Find a site you like the layout of, view it's source and use that as a guide. You can create your own images with paint program, or again, use stuff from other sites. Be good to ask permission before using other sites stuff though. By the nature of the web you could pilfer it and not let them know, but most web site owners appreciate people asking first.

OR

If you don't ever wan't to know about source codes and all that other html gibberish get a program like Microsoft Frontpage or similar and make it there.

Of course like all MS product this one has its own unique quirks but is similar to word or powerpoint in that you can write, copy & paste staright into, do formatting etc. and what you see is more-or-less what it will look like.

Whereas source code reads like gibberish, well to most normal people anyways.:s2:

You can write/edit source code in notepad but it is MUCH more difficult to learn.

Read Some links that might help

http://members.aol.com/webmag4u/

http://sheldonbrown.com/computer-net_links.html

Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/home have free 15Mb webspace available and have their own Pagemaker program (sorta like a real basic MS Frontpage) you can use, good for beginners.

You can use Word now as well - just save the page as HTML format (comes up under "Save As" in the File menu). To create links use right click and "Hyperlink". Works really well for basic stuff!

Bah, HTML is easy, it isn't even real programming. Using Web-page designers is cheating. It's like driving a car and not knowing how the engine, suspension or steering works.

Good to learn HTML first, and after that you are allowed to cheat because you know exactly whats going on, but you can't be shagged to type the whole bitch of a page out!! :s6:

That's what I do!! No way in hell am I going to code an entire page ever again. Little snips here and there yes, but for the bulk of web dev you can't beat a good graphical designer like Dreamweaver.

Dreamweaver! yes! too bad it costs like $500 for a copy.

Dragon, which ISP are you with? I know for a fact iiNet allow webspace. Send an e-mail to the support address at your internet company, and ask them how you can publish a page on the net. Then, go about constructing your web page. the newer versions of MS Word allow you to save as an HTML, which makes for an easy upload. You'll need to know how to upload stuff, but its a relatively easy obstacle to overcome.. just post another question if you get stumped again :)
