how much should i expect to pay for a 2 1/2 inch ehxhaust?
im thinking of getting a new exhaust system fitted, cause the others gotta whole in it, i was thinking a 2 1/2 inch system with a new 'brand name' muffler.
how much am i looking at here? its for a XE 6cyl.
can anyone suggest a size, or brand muffler.
cheers?
A 2 1/2" is a bit of an overkill for the 4.1L's and is generally way too loud. A 2 1/4" would be a much better option IMO. When I had my XF, I got a 2 1/4" mild steels setup with lukey muffler for about $280, but that was a couple of years ago. Redback mufflers also have a good rep, but I have always had lukeys on my exhaust systems.
BTW, you will probably get more responses posting this in the garage section.

Well i got a 2 1/2" stainless steel pipe, lukey muffler and lukey extractors for my 4.1L, I dont think its too loud or drony, and mines an auto just to make things worse.
Although my cousin once told me how some guys stuck a 2 1/4" echaust on an xf and put it on the dyno, and then stuck on a 2 1/2" exhaust and apparently the 2 1/4" made a bit more power. who knows?

well either way i go, it should be loud enough so just depends on prices
im thinking of selling my car in about 6mnths & i reckon a louder/bigger exhaust will be better for that, escpecially if i can get a few P platers interested

Well my above mentioned setup cost me $500. Thats $250 for the extractors and then $250 for the stainless 2 1/2" pipe and muffler and 3" tip. Didnt cost me any labour cos it was a mate of a mates shop :)

I got Lukey extractors, High flow cat, and A lukey high performance straight through box. All 2 1/2".
$1050 all up so far.
cat= $350
muffler= $370
piping= $80
extractor= $200
tip= $50
The louder the better, only I have the same problem as XF Falcon, mine's an auto.
I used to have a very similar setup like this on my old 85' XF, that was a manual and the noise out of that was so much better. They seem to drone more in a manual though.
