How much should I pay - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I was wondering how much I shold pay for an old car to do up. I was wanting to get one now so I can have it ready for when I get my licence. Also what would be best to get for me to start on.

I am almost 13 but I can drive mums manual XF wagon and I have grown up around cars.

how much depends on what sort of car you want to do ... older cars (60s-70s) I wouldn't pay more than 500 bucks for a 'do upperer' in reasonable nick.

Being up country you may be able to come accross something cheaper .. I found my xa for 300 bucks up country .. a V8 fairmont .. but it needed a lot of TLC

I got my HQ for $100 and it was in not to bad condition but I havent got it anymore

What models are 60's - 70's fords

Has anyone got any pictures of them so I can see if I like them

I like Holdens normally but I also like older Fords too

HQ is a 70s holden!!
HG HK HT HQ HJ HX and HZ covers the full size holdens. Personally .. if I was to do up an older car I would go HQ or earlier as there are pollution laws to take into account on the later ones which can be a real pain.
Ford..
XR XT XW XY (the square type fords) XA XB XC covers about the same era as the holdens....

mind you .. as I am finiding out , parts for old cars are getting hard to find

there cheap as chips, look kewl, easy to drive, cheap on fuel.

what more could you want from a first car!!

or if ya want i big car with more power, get a XR Falcon, they look awsome!!

I rekon an XE (82-84?) would do the trick very nicely, you could pick one up for $500, 4 on the floor, 250, go down quite nicely lil matey.

ok here are some pictures of cars so you know what your looking at.

Here's an old capri they rock but they are impossible to get parts for

And now for the falcons.
XM Falcon early to late 60's really old but very nice and you can still get them

the famous falcons the XW Falcon and then the XY

Now for the 70's falcons this is an XA

XC fairmont

now for the 80's Falcon this is an XD.

XE falcon (last V8 before the EB and the first EFI falcon

The XF falcon excellent car!!

Which of these would be easiest to do up cause it will be me and mum doing it. Mum said cheapest too :(

I spose I have got a few years to make anything look good.

XC Falcons are easy to get a hold of and easy to work on.
Also because there are heaps on XD parts in them engine parts are not an issue.
XD's are really tuff cars but they suffer from a bit of rust and rust is the most expensive thing to fix.
I'd say spend a few dollars (say save up 1200) and get a nice straight manual XE falcon S. Then do that up.
Escorts are a brillient car though so if you'd prefer something nippy go the escort (mum may not approve though as your dead in a crash with a escort which is why I wasn't allowed to get one)
The biggest problem with doing up a near wreak is the dollars required. Sure a you could by an XC for say $500 but the amount of cash required to make it special would climb very quickly.
