Thats pretty dodgy, wouldnt it fall under our Unsolicited Information laws? Hopefully. Let me guess, the 30 sec voice message gets charged to your phone bill as well?
When John Howard wasn't spamming your inbox with unsolicited emails(aka Spam) during the election campaign, he actually was using an American company to autodial numbers(presumably in marginal seats) and play a recorded messege of honest John telling you to vote for him.
Only problem was, some people have messegebank and ended up getting charged to listen to "Hello, this is John Howard and i want you support..." when they checked their messeges for stuff they wanted to hear. Still waiting to hear if he will be paying damages for all the people this occured to with their own party money, or if they are just going to let poor messege bank users cop the bill.

youll also find in the U.S there is a call registry set up. you ring them, tell them your phone number and you wont be getting any more of these phone calls. if companies do decide to call you anyway they can get huge fines and sued and all the other legal stuff they do over there done to them.
