Visiting a HSV engineer today and I asked about the AWD Avalanche parked out the front. Interestingly the response was that it was all a bit of a marketing driven project and sales were not expected to be significant.
In particular the fact that it went over 2000kg at the kerb and was a bit ugly to most eyes.
Might be just one persons opinion but I got the feeling the engineering staff felt it was a lost cause forced upon them.

Would be interesting to see the sales of Merc ML55's or BMW X5 4.6i's as a proportion of total model sales, as that is substantially the same market the Avalanche is aimed at.

i would have to agree,

the whole luxo / performance SUV market would have to be the most pretentious there is.

as for sales i wouldnt be surprised if they only sell a few hundred a year.

Avalanche is the most over-rated.. useless.. & completely pointless vehicle HSV have done for some time.

I expect this vehicle to bomb quite badly to be honest. Looks as though the engineers view is on the money for mine.

It's a warmer version of the Adventura, not a competitor to a clubsport. It's aimed at those who would consider buying an Adventura but have enough dough to buy a tarted up one(Avalanche).
As a performance vehicle it dose'nt rate very high, but compare it to a standard Adventura it probly go harder, handle better an look tougher.
I doubt they tried to make it a racecar, but just produced a vehicle that appeals to the materilistic analy-retentive people who have the "mines bigger, more expensive than yours so it's better" attitude.
Fits in nicely with HSV's Coupe4 in their lineup off such vehicals.

If you can afford an X5 4.6, you wouldn't be even turning your head as you passed a Hold-on dealer.
