Last Friday (the 8th of October, 2004), I received a letter in the mail from Victoria Police:

Then on Saturday, I went and got myself a set of new metal valve caps (Thanks Steve_T for the idea), and a lockable fuel cap.
This is where it gets interesting...
I didn't have a problem with the metal valve caps, and there is no way they are coming off without using a spanner - anybody who tries will only end up with sore hands. That was easy.
The lockable fuel cap... Hmm... They only manufacture those to suit Mk I Escorts, and Mk II Escorts manufactured AFTER 1977... Mine is a 1976 Mk II... I got it anyway, seeing as I still have my 1980 Mk II, which it was designed for...
Anyway, today I thought to myself that the fuel caps don't look any different, and in fact, I have swapped the fuel caps between the two cars in the past, so I decided to try putting the new lockable one on anyway.
I got it on without a problem. Getting it off, however, hasn't proven to be so easy!
Even with the key, the damn thing doesn't want to come off!
Oh well, at least they can't let down my tires or get into my fuel tank anymore - I can always work out what is going on with the fuel cap not coming off later...
