I bought a 79' Firebird! - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hey everyone, just wanted to say that I just got a 79' Pontiac Firebird, V8 with the 4-speed transmission........... it's too bad I could not find one that was previous to 79', but I can always throw out the engine and drop something else into it..... anyways, it's in great shape, the leather and everything is still good on the interior..... the paint is good, it's all original except for the paint..... the engine sounds like it's got some trouble, makes loud ticking sounds, but only when you rev the engine up, there doesnt seem to be a loss in power........

I've become a member over at Gmforums.com, since I have a reason to now, I'll post some pics of it soon next to my Ford, which by the way I'll always keep.....

If I were to get a Firebird, it would have to be a 89 Turbo Trans-Am. Those are muy bueno.:D

couple of things that tick can be.

1. You are hearing the bad leak in the manafolds or headers. Check the bolts for tightness

2. You have a loose rocker. that is a pain in the bum. remove covers and check each one and tighten them down.

3. you can have a rod going bad, but you would hear it all the time.

The first two will get much louder when you rev the engine.

My dad has a WS6 70 trans, yellow, T's and a big red bird. Totally restored. I was with them the day they bought it. Top award getter at most shows. SWEEET!

Well guys, I didnt buy it after all. It looked WAY nice, but I didnt like how it sounded! I didnt feel like tearing apart the engine to get it to run properly, or to find out that it needed a new one. Also, I had plans originally to get my Probe painted and get some rims for it, so I am going to go through with my original plan. Maybe one day when I consider my Probe "done", I'll find a musclecar that runs good and is in good shape so I can tinker with it.....

Oh well, maybe next time!
