This all occured on private property and in now way endagered and innocent lives, just my own and other party. No speeds are listed, to prevent a flame war. But I thought it important to tell you how slow the VY is... or how fast my ED is.

Ran into a guy who bought a VY S manual a month ago, and decided to set up a drag between my car and his. Just for fun, I was well aware that my ED was outclassed.

Anyway, one of his relatives owns a property and funny enough, it has a long straight bit of bitumen thats plenty long for a 400m dash.

So... I saw this guy tonight after the movies, happen to be in the same place at the same time. And we headed out to this property (I shall not mention where) to have some fun. Mean while, I still had my girlfriend in the car!

We decided to run to races, one in each direction. This VY is a 3.8 5 speed and I have a 4.0 4 speed.

Lined up.. we get the signal and launch, and thats where it all ended, the VY stayed on me off the line but quickly slid back as he had to change gear through my power ban. Things evened up in my 2nd gear though and it held that way through 3rd before we ran out of road. Not flippin bad I thought, but he has to get me 2nd time around, his lauch was as slow as my auto.

Same thing again, he launches well and gets 1/2 car in front, I draw even again on his 1st to 2nd change and we hold again though my 2nd untill I get into 3rd and he puts 1/2 a car on me again.

End result, my ED is as fast as a manual VY, which isn't slow. This guy was flat changing his gears, you could hear the chirps and bangs from the VY as he did so.

This was a very satisfying victory - well I didn't win, but hell, I shouldn't have stayed right on his drivers door!!!

Intersting to note though, he owns an ED and it supposadly beats a 3.8 auto (der!), but he recons mine has very fast gear changes! Quite a compliment I thought!

Might explain why I stayed dead even with that VR V8 ute a while ago...

Thanks for the story 94ED, just a question. EA,B & D etc all had 5 speeds I thought. My EB did, have you change yours or is yours an auto?

My EB was a 5 speed with Advanced headers and exhaust. This alone when dyno'd brought my rwkw upto 123, which is close to XR6 specs. I would have thought it would be more than a match for a 107rwkw (est) VT/X/Y 3.8 regardless. The E series, 4.0 5 speeds were no slugs.

Mark, for the 3.8L Commodore if you specify a manual they still fit them with the Getrag gearbox which is a 5 speed. They've been using Getrags since the VS days.

I tell you what, the VY's make some wierd noises at high speed. I thought at first he had a supercharged S because it was winning and making a hissing noise up the front, and every gear changed was a loud pop.

He must be hammering the bloody thing! My Falcon sounded better with stock exhaust!

Reminds me when I raced a VX clubby in my EL I6. Not a chance in hell as everyone thinks, but of the line i kept up to him to about 70-80km/h, then he just started pulling away, but at the same time we had to slow down.

I was suprised I kept up to him to the 70 mark though...
