Idea: Remove that 'extra thick' firewall form AV XR's

I don't know about you guys, but having driven AU series I & II XR6's I can tell you that I prefer to hear the engine revving in my series I. The difference is very obvious, with the AUII you can't hear almost anything from the engine - thanks to the thicker firewall. This is fine for Fairmont or Fairlane buyers, but XR enthusiasts want to hear the engine! My mate who has an AUII was even considering replacing the firewall!

Anyway here's hoping that the AV XR dosen't get the 'silent treatment'. Opinions ?

Personally i reckon leave the sound deadening laminated firewall in the XR's. If i was getting a late model XR i would value refinement.

Talking about noise etc, i think that on the AU's they really cut down on the induction side of things. Even on the AU1's from the intake tube to the ducting right up to the pipe that connects to the Throttle body seems so restrictive compared to the EF.

Under acceleration it seems the EF has a much nicer induction sound to the later models. You can actually hear it sucking air
I think instead of deleting the firewall, they should open up the intake even though it will sacrific abit of nosie but no doubt the pickup and of power will be better.

Just my thoughts...

I say leave it in there. it also blocks out alot of road noise....

I hate cars with bad NVH.....

Why not wind down the window to listen to the engine?

The Laminated firewall is not only quieter but adds strength to th e body, to make it thinner would cost Ford heaps of dough & weaken the body to boot. If you really want to hear your engine screaming its t*ts of then turn of your beat box & listen to the ooonce from the engine, or fit a microphone under the lid conected to your radio.

LOL, I'll keep that in mind.

Maybe I could just buy a soundtrack of Craig Lowndes' car lapping Philip Island!

Don't forget - I am a bit crazy. I drove around in the XF for a year with a big hole in my extractors because I LOVE IT LOUD! The best was whenever I went past a cop car that had pulled someone over - I dropped it down a gear and gave it a bit - The cops would always look up. You could see the expression on their face like: "You cheeky bastard" HA HA.

i think you might want to visit this website: www.redliningit.com

it would be interesting if you could put a little microphone just above the tailpipe and hook it up to your stereo so you can listen to the exhaust in the car.

Intake & Exhaust noise !!! yea that brings back mammeries..... Cruisin around in the ole Valo. I couldn't hear the induction cos the side pipes wot came out under the passenger doors was not exactly fitted with mufflers. Expensive to run, although my roadworthy bloke made a fortune.
