Just wondering what are the benifits of having citizenship over just being a permenant residence? I've been here 2 years now which (Im pretty sure) makes me eligible to apply for citizenship. Is it worth doing? I don't plan on moving back home (NZ) for a long time so just wondering if its worth the hassle of getting it. Thanks

Well it would give you that warm and fuzzy feeling wouldnt it ?

Plus it would entitle you and your family to some other government benefits - like discounted hecs if you pay upfront.

Some of the benefits that l am aware of include eligibility to become an MP (yippee), a copper, hold an Aussie passport, right to vote, serve in the armed forces and maybe one or two others.

Oh, and you get a gum tree too
