Importing from England - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hey all, I've searched and searched and there doesn't seem to be to much info so I thought I'd post...

I'm looking to get a sporty mobile in the next 6-8months and have been seriously looking at imports.
Now while a few of the Jap machines tickle my fancy (FC Rx7 being the only one I'm really interested in)
What about a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth?
This I think is what I have to have.
2lt Cosworth DOHC Turbo RWD Saloon.

Can I import this under the 15 year rule?

If not what are the requirments for importing a more modern 4wd 2lt turbo Cossie? (less that 15 years old)

Who can I talk to for more info?

hmm that would be awesome. I have no idea about the euro regulations, but yeah going jap isn't a bad idea. Look at this site..

Some awesome looking supra's, its just all the unknowns that worry me. hmm 3.0l supra turbo would be ace.

Id be very interested in how you go with importing something from the UK though. But you would want to be quick because I heard the 15y.o rule is going to be stopped soon.

Yeah I've been looking at jap cars and was going to get an FC Rx7 but they just don't seem to be reliable and the supra's are heavy and hard to get bits for.

+ If I get the Cossie I'd still have a Ford, that sits well with me as I'd rather have a Ford badge flying past all the Jap mobiles.

I keep hearing the 15 year rule is going to go but I think most of it is BS.
It will most likly just change to the way SEVS are now limiting the amount allowed in.

lol...thats exactly how I feel about my next car. All these jap ones look sweet, go fast and are fairly reliable and are RWD/AWD and dont cost the earth to maintain.

Try finding an aussie ford, or any ford like that, pretty damn near impossible.

Havent seen any english importing sites of late tho

there was a cossie escort in the local trading post a couple weeks back $11k :)

Enter the Sierra Cosworth :D

4 piston vented brakes, IRS front and rear, RWD (can be converted to 4wd easily apparently)
157kw 2lt intercooled turbo running 9psi.
Standard equipment power mirrors/windows/sunroof and other gizmos.
It's an absolute bastard finding one with Aircon though so I may just have to go with out.

forget the aircon. my sierra is aircon and it wasnt designed for australian conditions. it works well enough as long as the temperature is less than 30. the fan speed isnt up to it, the compressor isnt up to it and the ventilation design isnt up to it. just enjoy the cossie :-)

If you think parts for the Supra are hard to find, wait till you get a Sierra. I know someone who had a 4wd Cosworth and he always had problems with finding parts in Aus.

I would love a Sierra but it aint gunna happen. That is why my next car will be an S15 200SX. I love Falcons but I am a car enthusiast and I wanna try different stuff. If someone offered me the choice between RS500 and S15 i would take the Cossie anyday. But you try getting parts for it here..

I know parts will be an issue but if I had to choose I'd rather go the extra mile for the car with the Ford badge.
My missues would kill me if I got a jap car as she hates them with a passion and has got me to many Ford branded presents.
Ultimatly the Sierra will be different but still quick and turbo. AKA exactly what I want.

From a few international calls to the UK (thanks to work ;-) I found out that for around 10,900 I can buy one and have it shipped here. I have a couple of people I can get over in the UK to find me one and drive on to the boat, then once it's here I don't have much in the way of compliancing to do, non at all infact, the UK regulations are almost exactly the same and the Cossie passes our regulations with out drama (thanks to Transport SA for finding out for me)

Now to get the cash together and get one!
