Got this in my inbox today, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the people who run this website. A bit on the privacy statement caught my attention, apparently the people who own the site are called CrimTrac. I was about to sign up, but noticing that name there stopped me dead in my tracks. I'd hate to think its a covert website set up by WA pigs to keep a list of names (plus numberplates) to keep track of. I know, I can't and WONT trust anything with a name like that..
anyway, heres a copy of the e-mail I got. It was delivered to my personal POP3 account with no CCs (no idea how they got the address.. anyway..)
Daily email list of Police Speed Camera locations in the Perth Metro Area.
Hve you been caught by the government speed camera "money grab" racket?
I often miss the news and don't get the speed camera locations for the following day. I found this site and thought this was worth its weight in gold. If you don't agree with this governments "Speed Camera Money Grab" then I urge you to send this email to your friends. It might save them their license.
Re: Information request - www.policespeedcameras.info
I just had a look at the site. The privacy statement spells out what the law is anyway. Everything it says there is done by any other web site. I guess they figure they will be targets for government attention so are being extra careful.
I don't know how you figure that they are going to keep a list of names and number plates to keep track of .. when they already have one.
Personally, whilst I hate speed cameras, I do agree with the Assistant Commissioner of Traffic .. don't speed and you won't pay the tax ( Yes, I have heard of exceptions so don't bother bringing it up ) It's the only way the b@stards will suffer.
Re: Information request - www.policespeedcameras.info
i doubt it would be from the government, but you never know.
i dont know where in perth you live discokin6, but there is very little imagination used in the placement of these things. usually in the same spots day in, day out. occasionally they trick us, but as a general rule, you can speed, slow down for the camera spot, then speed up again after you pass it.
kinda makes the things pointless really.

Re: Information request - www.policespeedcameras.info
I'm in Lesmurdie. There are two spots used within 5km of me, one on Lesmurdie Road, always in the same place. Right in front of a bus stop, you can always see the van sticking out from behind the shelter, and the black parasite sticks out like dog's balls in front of the bus stop.
Then theres Welshpool Rd Hill, right at the bottom (This is a hill where anything less than 3 litres or 6 cylinders has trouble doing the 80km limit). Strangely enough, near the bus shelter.. They've given up using phonebooths to hide them against, I heard that Telstra complained because people came along with chains and 4WDs and ripped them up where the coppers hid them.
Its a joke, only one person has died on Lesmurdie Road, and that was when someone on a motorbike, who'd been out of the area for a while, got drunk one night and drove straight into a roundabout. Only one person has died where they put the multinova on Welshpool Road, and that was a kid on a skateboard going down the hill, ending up smacking into a tree.
Needless to say, when I'm outside my local area, I do adhere to the speedlimits. But since this shire is semi-rural, the powers that be decide we can do with less police presence.. I guess the upside to that is that those roads that are great to drive on don't have their speed limits enforced
Re: Information request - www.policespeedcameras.info
roads like mundaring Weir Road you mean???
and i know what you mean about being outside your own area. i live in morley and know exactly where they put cameras. extremely rare to have one on walter road, but i do know where they do put them. sometimes one on william street, hidden behind a light pole. always have one on alexander drive just after the park.
funny, there is a trend here...wherever they can HIDE the things is where they are placed. if there is no opportunity to conceal it, then irrespective of the stretch of road, they dont use them. hhhmmmm...

The website is actually setup by an EX-Cop, who is fully against putting cops on stupid work such as speed cameras instead of worthy things such as burgluries, assaults etc...
