Insurance

Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone to the NRMA and they don't want to touch me anymore coz I have wheels wider than 6 inches!! WTF???? The stocky wheels would be at least 6 inches wide!!

They also won't insure my new suspension setup when I put it in. They won't allow any lower than 30mm. With super lows the car will be about 60mm lower.

They are fine with my 2.5in exhaust and extractors, but won't allow the wheels or springs. I can sort of understand the springs, but the wheels????? Wouldn't wider wheels made the car safer by having more rubber on the road? I don't understand! The wheels I have are 17in AMG Quakes with 235/45/17 tyres, does anyone know the exact width of them? I know they are more than 6 inches, but I can't seem to find the exact measurement.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will allow these mods without the premium being rediculously high. I am paying about $1100 through NRMA at the moment for a bog stock 2000 AUII Forte! Mods are:

17in Wheels
King Super Lows
2.5in Exhaust
Genie Extractors

Thanks
Daniel

Re: Insurance

I am willing to go up to about $1500-$1600 per year, but they have to have pay by the month or I'm screwed! lol.

I really don't understand how they can allow a sports exhaust and extractors with no change to the policy, but they won't accept the wheels!!

Re: Insurance

I just rang back coz I wanted to double check. The max with is 8 inches! The dumb bitch told me the width of the stocky wheels!!! But they still won't accept any lower than 30mm, which means I'll still have to change companies :(

Re: Insurance

LOL, stoopid insurance phone salesman, if you guys want a good laugh, check this out if you havent already done so;
http://www.aufalcon.com/Articles/lowering.htm

Shows just how phucked up insurance compaies are. But sometimes, and only sometimes, their stoopidity on the phone can work in your favour, but rarely.

Re: Insurance

no insurance companies will allow you to go lower than 30mm because its illegal!

the RTA/Vicroads will not allow it, your car will be unroadworthy.

Justcar say it must be "roadworthy", meaning the car still has 100mm clearance from the lowest point.

Depends how the insurance companies word it.

Re: Insurance

60mm is legal, the car will still have 100mm ground clearance or thereabouts. Plenty of people have superlows.
